Japanese cultural festival kicks off

A Japan-Vietnam karate event, which is being held at the Cau Giay Gymnasium in Hanoi, opened the Japan Festival 2006 running from August 18 through 25 in different cities throughout Vietnam.

The Japan Festival 2006, which will be the largest Japanese cultural event to take place in Vietnam, is aimed at strengthening the existing friendly relationship between the two countries.

Hanoians will have the chance to enjoy Japanese traditional and contemporary music and dance on August 21 at the Hanoi Opera House. Performances will include musicians playing the koto, flute and shaminsen, as well as Japanese dancers performing Yosakoi, Tsugarushamisen and American-influenced contemporary dances.

Well-known traditional Japanese tea and paper painting arts will also be presented during the festival. Sports fans can attend a football match for Japanese and Vietnamese youth taking place in Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival will also include pop and rock music performances exchange event for students and an economic conference.
