Dang Thai Than Steet

Posted in Old Quarter Street Names

Dang Thai Than was a Vietnamese revolutionary who, when surrounded by the French in 1910, committed suicide rather than be captured.

Before being named Dang Thai Than, this street was called Rue Lau Barede by the French. This was the road that French soliders took to reach their barracks in the Land of Concession, an 18-hectare area that had been ceded to the colonial power.
